Sergei Glazyev will become the new Secretary of State of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. This was announced by Alexander Lukashenko on April 17.
"We have agreed with Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin that yours (Glazyev. —EADaily) the contribution to the construction of the Union State should be significant. He thinks well of you. You've known my opinion for a long time. So we decided. Due to the fact that Dmitry Mezentsev's tenure in this position is coming to an end and he is leaving for another job. We have made such a decision to appoint you as the head and engine of our union integration in terms of managing the entire staff of the SG. I think the effect will be good," he said at a meeting with the new State Secretary of the SG.
At the same time, Lukashenko noted that "our movement towards the closest union of Belarus and Russia should be based primarily on the economy."
Earlier, Glazyev held the position of Deputy State Secretary of the Union State. The State Secretary until April 17 was Dmitry Mezentsev, who on that day was appointed representative of the President of the Russian Federation in The Constitutional Court.
