At Sheremetyevo airport, customs officers stopped a Ukrainian citizen who arrived from Qatar with smuggled US currency — $ 70 thousand.
"Sheremetyevo customs officers stopped the smuggling of 70 thousand dollars from Qatar. A 43-year—old citizen of Ukraine, who arrived from Doha (Qatar), tried to smuggle money," the Federal Customs Service of Russia said in its telegram channel.
Customs inspectors stopped the Ukrainian in the "green" corridor, where he stated during an oral interview that he had cash and provided it for counting.
"The citizen was returned with a receipt of 10 thousand dollars, allowed to move across the customs border without declaration. The amount of illegally imported cash in equivalent amounted to more than 6.5 million rubles," the department said.
A criminal case has been opened under Part 2 of Article 200.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (smuggling of cash on an especially large scale). The violator faces up to 4 years in prison or a fine in the amount of ten to fifteen times the amount of illegally moved currency.
