In Finland, about 100 cubic meters of coolant leaked at the Olkiluoto-3 (OL3) nuclear power plant. This was reported by the press service of the station operator Teollisuuden Voima (TVO).
The leak occurred on March 7 during routine maintenance. The reason was a staff error — one of the hatches of the reactor pool was not fully closed. According to TVO, the consequences were minimized thanks to operational actions
"The coolant that leaked into the container entered the floor drainage system designed to collect and remove such leaks. Radioactive waste water will be treated in accordance with established procedures," the press service said.
A container is a device that ensures radiation safety in case of emergency situations at a nuclear power plant. Prevents the release of radioactive substances into the environment.
According to TVO, the incident did not pose a threat to personnel, the environment or the operation of the station. The company has launched an investigation into the incident. Work on the annual maintenance of the station continues on schedule, completion of work is planned in early May.
