The transit of Belaruskali through the territory of Lithuania should be resumed. This was stated by the deputy of the Seimas of Lithuania Valius Azhuolas.
"After all, the transit of fertilizers is not prohibited, neither European nor world sanctions have been announced against it. Fertilizers have been going the way they are going, only not through Lithuania, but through Russia, only we voluntarily gave up income," he said.
According to him, Lithuanian politicians should be resolute and discuss the situation with the lawsuit filed by Belaruskali to the international arbitration court.
"What should politicians do?.. Resume the transit of fertilizers and help the port and railways to make a profit… But again, some kind of delay, some kind of expectation. Donald Trump's method is needed here: to do what is beneficial to the state," the Lithuanian parliamentarian said.
Earlier, Belaruskali handled about 11 million tons of products through Lithuania. In January 2022, the government of this country invalidated the contract of carriage of goods between the state-controlled railway company Lietuvos gelezinkeliai and Belaruskali. Since February 1 of the same year, the transportation of potash fertilizers through the territory of Lithuania has been stopped. In response, Belaurskali filed a lawsuit against Lithuania in The Permanent Court of Arbitration, in which it demands compensation for $ 12 billion in damages.
