"And Pugacheva was lowered into the toilet": Rodnina about the vicissitudes of fate and same-sex couples

State Duma deputy, three-time Olympic champion Irina Rodnina commented on the controversial attitude of society towards singer Alla Pugacheva.

"I never discuss anyone. According to our Constitution, everyone has the right to their own opinion, freedom of speech and their actions, if it does not go against the laws of the Russian Federation. Alla Pugacheva was idolized not for one time, but for forty years. And then they decided to put it in the toilet for a year and a half. Fair enough? The opinion about her is just shaping society. Someone has such an opinion, and someone has a different one. The main thing is that it should be objective. Very often we see that it becomes a biased factor," Rodnina told the Sport24 portal.

Meanwhile, the legendary athlete supported the idea of creating same-sex couples in figure skating. EADaily reported that French Olympic champion Gabriela Papadakis and American Madison Hubbell performed as a female ice dancing duo at the Art on Ice Gala in Zurich and plan to participate in several more performances in Switzerland.

"Same-sex couples in figure skating? They have existed for a long time, another question is that we live by our own laws and fit very little into what is happening in world sports, in particular in figure skating. Competitions have been going on there for a long time — and it is there. There are no same-sex couples in official tournaments.

But even if we take the team competitions that are in the Olympiad program today, they have existed since the last century. Why should I be against same-sex couples? These are same—sex couples, not marriages — do not confuse," the three-time Olympic champion emphasized.

And when asked by a correspondent what to do with male same-sex skating, Irina Konstantinovna answered very vaguely.:

"I don't know, if you like it, then let them ride. These competitions, as well as synchronized lines, began to arise because not everyone can jump triple and quadruple, and even double not everyone can jump. But people love figure skating.

We even have such competitions in figure skating as the European Dance Championships, but not sports, but collective. And we even had a team from the city of Vidnoye become European champions. That's why we are always surprised at something."
