The High Court of Western Denmark refused to extradite to Kiev a Russian citizen accused of espionage, as he may be subjected to Torture or other inhuman or degrading treatment in Ukraine. This is reported by the Danish edition B.T. Nyheder.
A similar decision was made regarding the Ukrainian.
"The High Court of the West ruled that Denmark has no right to extradite a Russian. The High Court also refused to extradite the Ukrainian, who is accused in his homeland of stealing jewelry and cash in four burglaries. For both, there is a risk of harm. According to the judges, they may be subjected to torture or other inhuman or degrading treatment," the newspaper writes.
It is noted that the judges made such a decision, despite the fact that Ukraine gave Denmark the so-called diplomatic guarantees of respect for human rights.
According to Danish law, extradition cannot take place if there is a risk of violating the article of the European Convention on Human Rights on torture and other forms of inhuman treatment.
In both rulings, the judges emphasized the conduct of military operations on Ukraine.
