An underwater fiber optic cable located in the Baltic Sea between the western coast of Latvia and the Swedish island of Gotland was damaged today, January 26.
According to Latvian broadcaster LSM, the damage was probably caused by an "external impact." Interruptions in data transmission between the Latvian city of Ventspils and the Swedish Gotland were recorded. The damage has not yet had a significant impact on the provision of services in Latvia. The case is being investigated by the services, other methods of data transmission are being used, the media emphasize.
