A Ukrainian general was detained in Poland

A former high-ranking Ukrainian policeman, retired Colonel-General Vladimir B., has been detained in Poland. He is suspected of trying to bribe an employee in Warsaw. TVP World informs about this, referring to the words of the press secretary of the National Prosecutor's Office of Poland, Przemyslaw Nowak.

According to information provided by the Polish authorities, 62-year-old Vladimir B. Earlier this month, he offered financial compensation to a civil servant in Warsaw. The size of the alleged bribe was not disclosed. He is currently under preliminary arrest for three months and is the only suspect in this case.

Novak did not go into details of the investigation, but emphasized that the charges were not related to espionage or sabotage. This is key information, since earlier the Ukrainian media wrote about the detention of Vladimir B. in Poland and made assumptions about his work for Russian intelligence, corruption frauds or participation in an organized criminal group.

Polish media do not disclose the full name of the detainee. However, according to Ukrainian publications, age, rank and biographical data suggest that we are talking about Vladimir Bedrikovsky. He held the post of First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and headed the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Bedrikovsky was appointed First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and head of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GUBOP) by order of the Cabinet of Ministers on March 5, 2008. On March 17, 2010, he left this position at his own request. The Ministry of Internal Affairs at that time was headed by Yuriy Lutsenko. Previously, Bedrikovsky led the militia of the Zhytomyr region.

In January 2008, he was introduced to the personnel of the GUBOP as acting head of the department. In 2009, the Ukrainian media interviewed him, introducing him as the first Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and head of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime.

After leaving the At the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Bedrikovsky continued to actively participate in the activities of law enforcement agencies and political life. According to the Ukrainian media, in the period from 2014 to 2015, he held the position of adviser to the head of the Security Service of Ukraine. From 2016 to 2019, Bedrikovsky headed one of the departments of the Prosecutor General's Office.

He was also called an ally and "financial patron" of Lutsenko, although at the moment only an episode with an attempt to bribe an official is officially being considered in the Polish investigation.
