In 2024, the bodies of 483 migrants were brought to Uzbekistan from abroad. This was told by the head of the Department of the Agency for Migration under the Government of the Republic Nigora Isroilova, reports gazeta.uz .
According to her, the costs of delivering the bodies were covered by the state budget. Depending on the country, they range from less than $1,000 if the body is delivered from Russia, up to $4,000—5,000 from the UK and $9,000 from South Korea and Japan.
Isroilova added that assistance in transportation is provided only if the deceased is a citizen of Uzbekistan and his relatives have applied to the agency for help.
According to the agency, most of the bodies were returned from Russia — 474. 5 bodies were delivered from Turkey, the remaining 4 from the Republic of Korea and Kazakhstan.
With the assistance of the agency, 775 citizens who found themselves in a difficult situation and 182 people who were seriously injured were also returned to Uzbekistan last year.
