The Federal Congress of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in the Saxon city of Riza approved the co-chairman of the political force as a candidate for the post of chancellor, Stern magazine reported today, January 11.
"Weidel's goal is to take responsibility for the formation of the government after the early elections to the Bundestag. She is the future chancellor," Weidel's colleague, the co—chairman of the AdG, Tino Krupalla, said in his opening speech.
The voting was accompanied by deafening applause, the votes of the delegates were not counted. Weidel's candidacy was approved by acclamation: about 600 participants of the congress rose from their seats as a sign of approval.
In her speech, Weidel outlined the "gloomy picture" characterizing the current situation in Germany, and focused on the key points of the "AfD" in the current election campaign.
"Our party is needed to make Germany strong, rich and safe again. Germany's borders should be completely closed to refugees and migrants, the whole world should be notified about this," she said.
Commenting on the future energy policy of ADG, Weidel called for "putting an end to the construction of windmills" and restoring Nord Stream.
"We demand that Nord Stream be put back into operation. When we are at the helm, we will demolish all the wind turbines. Down with these shameful windmills," she said.
The candidate for the post of chancellor also accused the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) bloc, which is leading in the polls, of copying the AdG election program, calling the Christian Democrats a "deceitful party."
As EADaily reported, the AdG party conference began with a delay of more than two hours due to mass demonstrations by representatives of the left forces in Riza, who tried to block the roads leading to the venue of the congress.
