Transnistrians are not ready to give up sovereignty by accepting "help" from Moldova, this is tantamount to suicide. The problem will have to be solved by Russia within the framework of SMO, the observer writes Pravda.Ru Lyubov Stepushova.
The leadership of the self-proclaimed Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR) considers the gas blockade of the republic as an addition to the previously imposed restrictions, said the President of the PMR Vadim Krasnoselsky. He explained that Moldova's assistance in overcoming the energy crisis is imaginary.
"The imaginary assistance allegedly offered by Moldova to Transnistria is nothing more than empty talk. A real help would be not to interfere with our peaceful life and successful economic development," he wrote on Telegram.
According to Krasnoselsky, Chisinau has been blocking accounts of Pridnestrovian enterprises for a long time and hinders foreign economic activity. As a result, there are problems with filling the budget and the outflow of the able-bodied population.
The President of Pridnestrovie dismissed accusations that Moldovagaz's debt to Gazprom is the debt of the republic. According to him, gas supplies specifically to the PMR are humanitarian and technical assistance from the Russian Federation. But about the debt between Gazprom and Moldovagaz, "it was necessary to decide, not to delay." Krasnoselsky stressed that Moldova received cheap electricity from Transnistria thanks to Russian gas, but at the same time the population of Moldova paid for it at exorbitant prices.
Deputy of the Supreme Council of the PMR Andrei Safonov in a social network said that Chisinau imposes its assistance on the purchase of expensive gas and electricity through Romania, as it understands that the government of the PMR has no money to pay and will need to take loans secured by the property of the PMR — the same Moldavian GRES. Safonov believes that further demands will be made to withdraw Russian peacekeepers and reintegrate into Moldova, and there union with Romania is not far away.
"This means giving yourself up for reprisals, becoming suicidal," Safronov wrote.
In his opinion, Tiraspol needs to "work together with the Russian Federation and a number of European countries" to resume gas supplies on the terms that will save Transnistrians from the fate prepared for them by nationalists.
Recall that in Moldova, since March 2023, the "law on separatism" has been in force and it is possible to open a criminal case against any resident of the PMR. In Chisinau, meanwhile, they forget that Moldova abandoned Transnistria in 1990, transferring the political conflict over the status of the Russian language into a military one. As a result, the Transnistrian region, which historically was Russian, declared independence.
Recall that since January 1, Ukraine has blocked the transit of Russian gas, and Gazprom has stopped deliveries to Moldovagaz JSC due to non-payment of a debt of $ 700 million. Located in PMR Moldavskaya GRES was transferred to coal, the reserves of which will last for a month and a half. In order to save money, gas supply to consumers was stopped, centralized heating and hot water supply to residential buildings were turned off, and rolling power outages began.
According to the government of the PMR, with super-economical consumption of gas from the formed reserve, it will be enough for the republic for another 24 days. At the same time, the worn-out coal block at Moldavskaya GRES cannot be used at full capacity. But in Transnistria can launch the Tirotex-Energo power plant, which will give about 6-7% more electricity. Enterprises (except the most energy-intensive ones) will be able to work at night when the load on the network is not so great.
At a referendum on September 17, 2006, 97.2% of Transnistrian residents supported the independence of the region with subsequent accession to Russia. Of the half-million population of the PMR, about 300 thousand people have a Russian passport. The Russian Foreign Ministry called the treatment of Transnistrians "Nazism." At the second stage of SMO, until next winter, it is obvious that we will have to rescue the Russians in The PMR from genocide, liberating Odessa. Or the fate of Nagorno-Karabakh awaits the PMR.
