Austrian President Alexander van der Bellen has instructed the leader of the ultra-right "Freedom Party" Herbert Kickl to form a new government of the country.
"Kickl enjoys the necessary confidence in order to find effective solutions regarding negotiations on the formation of a government, he is ready to take on this responsibility, so I instruct him to continue negotiations on the formation of a government," Der Spiegel quoted the Austrian leader as saying.▼ читать продолжение новости ▼▼ читать продолжение новости ▼
According to van der Bellen, this decision was "not easy" for him, but he assured that he would continue to follow the principles and norms of the constitution.
"This is a turning point in the history of Austria," writes Der Spiegel.
The Austrian Freedom Party (Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs — FPÖ) opposes anti-Russian sanctions and arms supplies to the Kiev regime.
