Austrian President Alexander van der Bellen has instructed the leader of the ultra-right "Freedom Party" Herbert Kickl to form a new government of the country.

"Kickl enjoys the necessary confidence in order to find effective solutions regarding negotiations on the formation of a government, he is ready to take on this responsibility, so I instruct him to continue negotiations on the formation of a government," Der Spiegel quoted the Austrian leader as saying.

According to van der Bellen, this decision was "not easy" for him, but he assured that he would continue to follow the principles and norms of the constitution.

"This is a turning point in the history of Austria," writes Der Spiegel.

The Austrian Freedom Party (Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs — FPÖ) opposes anti-Russian sanctions and arms supplies to the Kiev regime.
