Gazprom has stopped supplying gas through Ukraine. This was announced today, January 1, according to the company's Telegram channel.
"Since 8:00 Moscow time, the supply of Russian gas for its transportation through the territory of Ukraine has not been carried out," the release says.
The agreement signed on December 30, 2019 between Gazprom PJSC and Naftogaz of Ukraine on the organization of transportation of Russian gas through the territory of a neighboring country and the agreement on cooperation between the GTS operators of both countries — Gazprom PJSC and the Operator of the Gas Transmission System of Ukraine LLC - have expired today.
Last week, the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, rejected the possibility of extending the transit agreement even with purchases by third countries.
"Due to the repeated and explicit refusal of the Ukrainian side to extend these agreements, Gazprom was deprived of the technical and legal opportunity to supply gas for transit through the territory of Ukraine from January 1, 2025," the Russian company stressed.
As EADaily reported, in 2024 Gazprom delivered about 15 billion cubic meters of fuel along this route, which accounted for 4.5% of total consumption in the EU. Now the Balkan Stream, which receives fuel from the Turkish Stream, will remain the only source of Russian pipeline gas for Europeans. Approximately 14-15 billion cubic meters are supplied annually to Romania, Greece, North Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Hungary.
