Valery Yakovlev, People's Artist of the USSR and artistic director of the Chuvash Drama Theater, passed away in Cheboksary at the age of 84.
This sad news was spread by the press service of the head of Chuvashia Oleg Nikolaev. They noted that Valery Nikolayevich made an invaluable contribution to the development of the culture of the republic. He was an outstanding figure of theatrical art, whose life was dedicated to serving culture.
It is also emphasized that Yakovlev was not only a talented artist and director, but also a true mentor for his theater. His professionalism inspired generations of actors.
Valery Yakovlev was born on September 25, 1939 in the Shemurshinsky district of Chuvashia and graduated from the acting and directing faculties of the Lunacharsky State Institute of Theater Arts, now GITIS.
He started his career in 1961 as an actor of the Chuvash Academic Drama Theater, then in 1967 he became a stage director, since 1979 he has been the chief director and since 1990 - the artistic director.
For his work he was awarded the Orders of Friendship, Honor, "For Services to the Fatherland" IV degree, received the prize of the Government of Russia named after F. G. Volkov. He is a laureate of the Golden Mask Theater award.
