Rats are infesting European cities, and the authorities have no chance against rodents. "This is a fight against windmills," says Polish scientist Edita Vintsevich from the University of Wroclaw.
A Polish specialist from the Department of Animal Physiology clarified that there are about 1.5 million rats in Marseille, France alone. The local authorities began using ferrets to control rodents, but Vintsevich criticized this method.
"The rat populations are so large that bringing only ferrets to fight rats is not enough. The ferret method will work only in a small area. There should be such a complex struggle here. We really don't know anything about rats. We are fighting without recognizing the enemy," said Edita Vintsevich, Doctor of Natural Sciences.
Speaking of In Poland, the expert admitted that "we don't know how many rats we have, because no one counted them."
"Unfortunately, we ourselves give them opportunities to develop. We plant trees in the center of cities because we don't have enough greenery, and, unfortunately, rats settle there. We do not make sure that the food containers are closed. This is a fight against windmills," the doctor summed up.
