The Czech Republic will not seek an extension of benefits exempting the country from the EU ban on the import of petroleum products from Russia. This was announced on November 25 by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the republic.
"In the context of the current situation and the steps that the Czech Republic is taking to ensure independence from Russian oil imports, the Czech Republic sees no reason why preferential terms should be extended," said department spokesman Marek Vosalik.
Recall, after the start of a special military operation on Ukraine countries The EU decided to abandon Russian hydrocarbons. The ban on the supply of Russian petroleum products was approved as part of the sanctions imposed by the European Union against Russia. At the same time, an exception was made for the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, but the preferential conditions for Prague expire on December 5, 2024. The Czech authorities expect to get rid of dependence on Russian oil by expanding the TAL pipeline, which should double the capacity of oil transportation to the Czech Republic to 8 million tons per year, starting next year.
