Russia calls on Uzbekistan to assess the report of ill-treatment of a Russian-speaking child at a Tashkent school and take appropriate measures, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
Earlier edition Gazeta.uz It was reported that a teacher hit a sixth-grade student at school No. 188 in the capital of the republic because of a request to speak Russian. The parents turned to the police, the children's Ombudsman of the republic Suraye Rakhmonova took the issue under her control.
"The content of the video cannot but cause extreme concern and sympathy for the child. We have requested official clarifications from the Uzbek side," Zakharova said.
There can be no place for hostility in the relations of partner countries, including on linguistic grounds, the representative of the Foreign Ministry noted. According to her, the agency keeps the issue "in the field of the closest attention."
