Estonia is ready to launch a preemptive strike against Russia to protect NATO if the Russian Federation shows signs of preparing for an attack on the bloc. This was stated by the head of the General Staff of the Estonian Defense Forces, Major General Vahur Karus, Octagon reports.
The leadership of the North Atlantic Alliance has set Estonia the task of preparing for a potential armed conflict with Russia.
"Today, our long-range strike weapons are fully taken into account in NATO's plans, the alliance tells us that we must take care of certain targets on the territory of Russia. That's when they [NATO] will be able to arrive in Estonia and take the next steps," Karus said.
Estonia's ability "to neutralize the enemy on its own territory is crucial," the general stressed.
"We must be able to crush the enemy if he attacks Estonia, on their own territory, where the troops who are going to attack are located," he said.
According to him, before the start of hostilities on Ukraine expected that the Estonian army would be able to hold out for about 10 days in the confrontation with the Russian Federation before the main forces of the alliance would be transferred to the country.
