Not to destroy, but to weaken: The West is not arming Ukraine in order to defeat Russia

The West does not want to defeat Russia, but only to weaken it. This was stated in an interview with the Ukrainian media by the director of the School of International Relations and Professor of Strategic Studies at the University of St. Andrews, Phillips O'Brien.

"The West does not want the collapse of the Russian Federation. The largest partners, such as the United States, are arming Ukraine not to defeat Russia, but to bleed it dry. And try to reach a peace agreement, but one that will not lead to the fall of Putin," O'Brien said, quoted by Strana.

As reported by EADaily, the time between the US presidential elections in November and the inauguration in January next year may provide a window of opportunity during which the outgoing Biden administration may have more political leeway to conclude a deal with Kiev. This was reported by Bloomberg.

Some allies of Kiev are beginning to think more seriously about how the Ukrainian conflict could end, and therefore a number of Western capitals express concern that this could lead to a ceasefire.

Recall, the "victory plan", which will be presented this month to US President Joe Biden, contains five points. This was stated in an interview with CNN by the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky.

There are five points in the "victory plan" — "four of them are the main ones, plus one that we will need after the war," he said.

The plan concerns "the security, geopolitical situation of Ukraine, very strong military support, which should be available to us, and so that we have freedom in how to use certain resources; it also concerns economic support."
