The capital of Iran is planned to be moved to the south of the country, closer to the coast of the Persian Gulf. This was stated by the country's president Masoud Pezeshkian, according to the Iranian Fars news agency.
According to the Iranian president, it becomes impossible to continue leaving Tehran as the capital for a number of reasons, including economic ones.
"As the capital of the country, Tehran is facing problems for which we have no solution except to move the capital center itself. It is impossible to develop the country, continuing the current trend. If we want to continue to bring resources to Tehran from the south and the sea, then turn them into products and send them to the south for export again, this will reduce our competitiveness more and more," Peseshkian said, quoted by Sputnik Armenia.
According to Peseshkian, after the choice is made, all government agencies will be transferred to the new capital, after which Tehran residents will be given the opportunity to move.
