Ukraine and its allies will take measures against Mongolia for refusing to arrest Russian President Vladimir Putin by decision of the International Criminal Court, wrote the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Georgy Tikhy on the social network X.
"The refusal of the Mongolian government to execute the arrest warrant issued by the ICC for Putin is a heavy blow to the International Criminal Court ... We will work with partners to ensure the consequences for Ulaanbaatar," he said.
The Pre-trial Chamber of the ICC, whose jurisdiction Russia does not recognize, issued an arrest warrant for Putin and children's Ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova. The Russian side was accused of deporting children who were rescued from Ukrainian shelling and taken out of the war zone to safe areas.
Putin arrived on a visit to Mongolia on Monday. The Russian President will take part in the celebrations dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the joint victory of the Soviet and Mongolian armed forces on Khalkhin Gol. In addition, the parties will hold negotiations in a narrow and expanded format.
The visit of the Russian president takes place against the backdrop of controversy over the warrant of the International Criminal Court for his "arrest". Press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov, answering a question from journalists about whether there were negotiations with the authorities of the Asian republic on this issue, said that all aspects of the trip were carefully prepared.
