Mongolia will be able to use part of the cheap gas that will flow through the country via a pipeline from Russia to China, said President Vladimir Putin in an interview with the Mongolian newspaper Onodor.
The Head of State recalled the Soyuz Vostok gas pipeline project, with a length of more than 960 km, which is planned to be built and carried out from Russia to China through the territory of Mongolia. According to the president, at the end of December 2023, the project documentation was completed.
"By the way, if initially the Mongolian partners wanted to limit themselves only to the transit role, now the possibility of using part of the cheap pipeline gas for the development of your economy and infrastructure is being considered," Putin said.
He also said that Russia "responds" to Mongolia's requests for the supply of fuel and lubricants at preferential prices.
"The relevant intergovernmental agreement is being negotiated," the President noted.
The Soyuz Vostok gas pipeline in Mongolia will be a continuation of the Russian Power of Siberia—2 gas pipeline, which will run between the fields of Siberia and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwestern China.
The design of the Power of Siberia —2 began back in 2020. Its approximate length is about 6.7 thousand km, of which 2.7 thousand should pass through the territory of Russia, the projected capacity is 50 billion cubic meters per year.
