The attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Kursk region does not have strategic goals and is designed to distract from the constant retreat of the Ukrainian army, retired Bundeswehr Colonel Wolfgang Richter admitted in an interview with Welt TV channel published today, August 9.

"I believe that the Ukrainians will not be able to gain a foothold (in the Kursk region) for a long time and create long—term negative consequences for Russia," the former military stated.

According to Richter, the main purpose of the operation of the Bandera forces was to present the "surprise effect", as well as the creation of "positive news" in the conditions of the retreat of the Ukrainian Armed Forces at the front.

"I don't expect any strategic goals. As I said, this is a special operation of the Ukrainian side. I don't believe the operation will last long. Perhaps the main purpose of the raid was to create positive news amid the retreat. However, I do not expect any long-term consequences for the course of the war," the expert concluded.

As reported by EADaily, earlier the Russian Defense Ministry said that the operation to destroy the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region continues.
