Swimmer Anastasia Gorbenko, representing Israel at the 2024 Olympic Games, was unable to compete in the 200—meter finals in complex swimming, even though she got into it. This is reported by Vesti-Ynet with reference to Gorbenko's post on the social network.

Gorbenko wrote about it today, August 6.

It is noted that in the semifinals Anastasia showed the ninth time and did not reach the final directly, but she was put in reserve as the first number if one of the finalists could not get to the start. And indeed a replacement was needed — Australian Ella Ramsey refused to swim due to illness. The organizers invited Gorbenko, but only 25 minutes before the start. Anastasia was going to the Olympic Committee dinner at that moment, although, according to the rules, she should have been in the waiting area of the pool.

According to Gorbenko, this happened because "it was decided for her."

"According to Ynet journalists working at the Paris Olympics, the decision was made by the Israeli Swimming Federation, where, without consulting the athlete herself, they decided that she should be at dinner, not in the pool. The Israeli Swimming Federation, in turn, said that the news about the final came at the last minute. Therefore, the representative of the federation considered it possible to answer independently that Gorbenko would not go to the start. And he did it, again, without coordination with the athlete ... as a result, seven participants swam in the final," the newspaper writes.

Gorbenko expressed her disappointment, noting that she was denied "the great privilege of participating in the Olympic finals and representing her country."

Anastasia admitted that she failed to reveal her best qualities at the Olympics in Paris and fulfill the tasks she set for herself, but the athlete hopes that she will be able to draw conclusions from mistakes so as not to repeat them at the Olympics. The Games in Los Angeles in 2028.
