The measure of restraint was chosen by the Lefortovo court of Moscow at the request of the investigation.

"A petition has been received to elect a preventive measure in the form of detention against Ilya Sergeyevich Novikov ***** for two months from the moment he crosses the State Border of the Russian Federation and is transferred to the convoy service of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, or from the moment of detention on the territory of the Russian Federation," the report says.

As EADaily reported, since 2021, the lawyer has been living in the capital of Ukraine, after the start of a special military operation, he announced joining the ranks of the Kiev defense ministry. For the first time, the Ministry of Internal Affairs put Novikov***** on the wanted list in December 2022 in a criminal case about fakes about the Russian army. In June 2023, the Moscow Bar Association deprived Novikov***** of the status of a lawyer in Russia, accusing him of "unworthy behavior." In December 2023, the Investigative Committee of Russia opened a new criminal case against him also for fakes about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

A week earlier, Novikov***** was included in the list of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring.
