The leader of the Agmashenebeli Strategy party, a satellite of the United National Movement, Georgy Vashadze, called the statement of the ruling Georgian Dream about changing the rhetoric of the opposition on trade relations with Russia on the eve of the parliamentary elections "fake".
"Yes, we intend to continue trading with Russia. We never said that trading should be reduced to zero. Our main task is to make sure that our economy does not depend on the Russian economy, as it happens under the Georgian Dream," Vashadze said.
He noted that flour today is imported almost 100% from Russia, the fuel is also almost all Russian. There should be no such dependence on one country, the Georgia News portal quotes Vashadze. Strategic diversification of markets and exports and imports for all groups of goods is necessary, he believes.
The "Agmashenebeli Strategy" is going to the October elections in a coalition with the "nationals" of ex-President Mikhail Saakashvili. Vashadze formulated the priority of his team earlier as follows:
"Movement towards the European Union, strategic partnership with the United States, American and European investments and life in a united Georgia."
At the same time, now Vashadze also began to say that the opposition does not consider it right to completely curtail trade with the Russian Federation.
Georgian Dream believes that their opponents are lying in pursuit of votes. If the opposition comes to power, sanctions will be imposed against Russia the next day, which means that Georgia will be "involved in the war."
