During two weeks of raids on construction sites, markets and dormitories, the police revealed more than 7,500 violations of migration legislation. About a thousand migrants have been detained for expulsion, Fontanka reports today, July 26, with reference to the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region.
The purpose of the operation is called by the security forces "decriminalization of the migrant environment." Raids took place at 150 construction sites, several dozen markets and 140 catering outlets, and about 200 places of residence of migrants were also checked. As a result, more than 7.5 thousand administrative offenses were detected among foreign citizens, most of which are related to migration legislation. Special attention was paid to drivers — traffic police inspectors found almost 3,500 traffic violations among foreign citizens.
For serious violations of migration legislation, more than 900 people were placed in special centers for subsequent deportation. They will be banned from entering the Russia for several years.
About 100 organizations that hired illegal immigrants were brought to administrative responsibility. In addition, the police liquidated two criminal groups engaged in illegal migration and opened 141 criminal cases on the facts of legalization of foreign citizens. More than 70 crimes committed by migrants have been solved.
