The words of the US presidential candidate from the Republican Party Donald Trump that Russia defeated Hitler and Napoleon will not be useless for most of the American audience. This was stated to journalists by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, according to TASS.
In response to a request to comment on Trump's statement that he reminded Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky of Russia's victory over Hitler and Napoleon, a Kremlin spokesman said:
"Probably, this [Trump's words] will be useful for most of the American audience."
Peskov noted that it would be useful for Americans "to find out that there really are many glorious pages in the history of Russia."
"Probably few people in the United States of America — I mean ordinary Americans, although maybe representatives of the so—called political establishment — know history so deeply that they have information about the war of 1812, about the Great Patriotic War," Peskov said.
"They don't know this for sure, because no one has taught them this, so it's not useless for them. Maybe some of them will be interested in [the history of Russia] later," he added.
Answering the journalist's clarifying question why Trump knows Soviet-Russian history better than Zelensky, the Kremlin spokesman said:
"You are a journalist, you can turn to Trump and ask him these questions. If you remember, I'm not Trump's press secretary."
