In the city of Karabash in the Chelyabinsk region, the dam of the Kialim reservoir broke. This is reported by the press service The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the region.
The destruction of the dam occurred due to a sharp rise in the water level due to prolonged downpours.
"As a result of the passage of heavy rainfall and an increase in the inflow of water to the Kialim reservoir, a 100—meter-long dam was washed away," the report said.
According to the operational headquarters of the Karabash city district, residents of settlements located in the flood zone — Kiolim, Mukhametovo, Karasaevo, Baydashevo, Saktaevo — need to be ready to evacuate and collect essential items and documents.
Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, specialists of public utilities and other departments are working on the spot.
The Kialim reservoir is a reservoir on the border of Karabash and Miass city districts, created in 1979. It is a hydrological natural monument of regional significance.
