Putin receives newly elected prime minister of Armenia in Sochi

President of Russia Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan have met on sidelines of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council meeting in Sochi.

Putin congratulated Pashinyan on his election as prime minister and expressed hope that bilateral cooperation with Armenia will be further enhanced and developed dynamically.

“I’d like to wish you success and hope the relations will be developing as progressively as they have done by present,” Putin said in presence of mass media.

The Russian president brought figures of trade and economic cooperation of the two countries and Russian investments in economy of Armenia.

Pashinyan, in turn, assured Putin of further allied relations of Armenia and Russia. “No one has cast and will (ever) cast doubt on importance of Russian-Armenian relations, I think. We have the energy to give a new impetus (to bilateral relations) in political, trade and economic sense, and in military and technical area,” the prime minister said.

“We highly appreciate the balanced stance of Russia during our domestic political crisis – a very constructive stance. This is appreciated not only by our government but also by our people,” Pashinyan said. He congratulated the Russian leader on past May holidays adding that Armenia closely followed the Victory Parade of May 9 and was impressed with Russia’s achievements in the military and technical field.

To recall, National Assembly (Parliament) of Armenia voted to elect the only candidate for prime minister – leader of “velvet revolution” Nikol Pashinyan on May 8. Pashinyan’s candidate was approved by 59 votes “for” and 42 “against.”
