“Echo of Geneva”: Karabakh reports on Azerbaijan using artillery

On October 22, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces have used mortar guns and Spike anti-tank guided missile launcher against units of the Nagorno-Karabakh Armed Forces at a section of the line of contact, te defense ministry of the unrecognized republic reports.

“This confirms the fact that Baku not only does not strive for a peaceful settlement of the conflict and preventing from unneeded victims, but, on the contrary, resorts to provocations to destabilize the situation,” the statement runs.

Taking into account that the effort of the world community and the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs in particular needs to be continued effectively, the Karabakh units decided not to take actions in response; however, according to the statement, they promise to give a prominent response in case the attacks repeat.

The new surge of violence in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone is in discord with the “constructive atmosphere” at the October 16 talks of the Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents in Geneva. To remind, a statement after the meeting said the talks processed in a constructive atmosphere and Serzh Sargsyan and Ilham Alyiev were ready to take additional measures to activate the negotiation process and ease the tension on the line of contact.

Three days after the Geneva meeting, a private of the Artsakh Defense Army, Tigran Khachatryan, was killed by fire from the Azerbaijani side.
