In Uzbekistan, an 18-year-old girl was fined for screaming loudly during a rapist's attack, trying to attract attention and stop a man, Afisha Daily reports.
"The incident occurred on July 17. A girl named Sevara was attacked by her former coach, 26-year-old Sardorjon Khaitboev. After the meeting in the park, the man began to molest her. She began to loudly call for help and resist, which is why the attacker stopped his actions. The court sentenced the man to five days of administrative arrest for harassment. At the same time, Sevara herself was found guilty of "violating public order" and fined 8235 rubles. According to the court, her screams disturbed the public peace," the report says.
Representatives of the "Keep Quiet Uz" project said that shouting was the only way to prevent possible violence, and called the punishment of the victim absurd. In their opinion, such court decisions can discourage women from seeking help and defending themselves in dangerous situations.
