Due to the record decrease in the water level in the Danube due to the abnormal heat, the Paks NPP in Hungary may be completely stopped. This was announced today, July 30, by Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar.
The information was made during a press conference on the occasion of the visit of the Prime Minister of the federal State of Bavaria Markus Zeder to Hungary.
"Due to the low water level in the Danube, the Paks NPP may be completely shut down today or on Friday," Magyar said.
At the beginning of the week, a record decrease in the water level in the Danube near the Hungarian city of Paks forced the management company to reduce the capacity of the first and third power units of the Paks NPP. Yesterday she announced the beginning of a complete shutdown of the third power unit of the station.
Since July 30, the Hungarian government has introduced the third, highest level of danger throughout the country due to extreme heat.
As EADaily reported, abnormally hot weather has been established in Europe since mid-June. In a number of countries, the air temperature rose to around 40 degrees, and in some places even exceeded it. The highest red weather hazard level was introduced in France, Britain, the Netherlands and Italy.
It should be recalled that Russia is building two new power units (No. 5 and No. 6) with Russian VVER-1200 generation III+ reactors with a total capacity of 2,400 MW at Paks NPP. The project is based on an intergovernmental agreement under which Russia provided Hungary with a state loan.
