The cause of the sudden death of Senator Lindsey Graham was aortic dissection. It is reported by The Washington Post with reference to the preliminary report of the Office of the Forensic Medical Examination of the District of Columbia.

"After Senator Lindsey Graham (Republican, South Carolina) died suddenly on Saturday evening at the age of 71, a preliminary report from the District of Columbia Medical Examiner's office showed that the senator suffered aortic dissection - a dangerous condition in which a rupture forms in the main artery of the body. If left untreated, it can quickly kill a person," the publication says.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, between 5 and 30 out of every million people experience aortic dissection every year. The most common symptom of aortic dissection is sudden, acute pain in the chest or back. Other symptoms are fainting, dizziness, or shortness of breath.

This condition is sometimes confused with a heart attack, said NYU Langone Health cardiologist Greg Katz.

Aortic dissection can kill quickly. According to the University of Chicago, 40% of people with this disease die almost instantly. However, if a living patient is taken to the hospital within a few hours, he can survive with timely treatment, the newspaper notes.

As reported by EADaily, the daughter of the former special envoy of the US President for Ukraine, General Keith Kellogg, demanded a full autopsy of Graham's body in search of a "Russian trace."
