Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan presented to the participants of the NATO summit in Ankara has unusual souvenirs. The invited heads of state and government received a revolver at parting, Bild reports.
A representative of the German government confirmed to dpa that Chancellor Friedrich Merz also received such a gift. According to the outgoing British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the names of the summit participants were engraved on the revolvers, and a box of cartridges was included.
Merz, however, did not take a weapon with him: It was handed over to the embassy in order to be officially imported to Germany and added to the collection of state gifts. Starmer also left the revolver in Turkey, as importation would violate British gun laws.
