Russia is forced to introduce measures against Armenia because of Yerevan's political course, First deputy head of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs Konstantin Zatulin said. According to the deputy, the ban on the import of flowers and other restrictions are dictated not only by phytosanitary violations.
Flowers and vegetables will not be limited if the course of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan remains the same, Zatulin warned.
"We do not want to hear threats against Red Square from Yerevan, no matter from whom they come, without any reaction from the Armenian Prime Minister and his team. We pay tribute to the fact that a year and a half ago, at the initiative of the government, a law was adopted on the beginning of the [process] of Armenia's accession to the EU — without an invitation to the European Union. Even the summit, which was so pompously held in Yerevan on May 4-5, did not provide Armenia with such an invitation," RTVI quoted Zatulin as saying.
The parliamentarian recalled the roadmap signed following the European summit: It provides for the decommissioning of the only power unit of the Armenian NPP by 2040 under the pretext that by that time an alternative generation will appear or modular nuclear power plants, which do not yet exist, will be purchased from the United States.
"Against this background, we have to think not about flowers, not about fruits and not about a good mood, but about the fact that the country has already suspended membership in the CSTO, although this is not actually provided for by the charter under which it is signed. < There will be a different approach, there will be other people — there will be other conversations, and, I am sure, other decisions," Zatulin stressed.
