The Lithuanian authorities created a panic among residents because of the threat of a possible drone. This is reported by local media.
It is reported that on the morning of May 20, an air alert was announced in the country due to the threat of a drone.
"In Ignalinsky, Utensky, Shvenchensky and Zarasaysky districts, a warning has been issued to the public about the threat from the air (yellow level). The reason is that on the territory of Belarus, not far from the border of Lithuania, a radar marker with features characteristic of unmanned aerial vehicles is currently recorded. Fighters carrying out the NATO air police mission were raised from our side," the Lithuanian army said.
They added that the yellow level standard means that an attack is likely, but is not yet happening.
"This incident is similar to what has been observed in recent days in Latvia and In Estonia, a warning to the population is a standard preventive measure," the Lithuanian military said.
Later, residents of Lithuania received another notification about the need to immediately go to the shelter. After a warning about drones, children in schools and kindergartens in the Ignalina district were taken to shelters. President Gitanas Nauseda, staff and Lithuanian MPs were transferred to a shelter. Also, a "red" danger level has been declared in Vilnius County, warning residents about the need to take shelter in a safe place. In addition, the airspace over Vilnius Airport was temporarily closed, as well as train traffic was suspended. Later, the army announced the reduction of danger to Vilnius County and the alarm was lifted.
Recall, in Latvia, two Ukrainian drones, which flew in from Russia, fell on May 7. In Lithuania, drone arrivals were also recorded. In Estonia, on May 19, a UAV was shot down by the Air Force.
