The Reform UK party, which won the local elections in the UK, removed the Ukrainian flag from the facade of the Essex County Council building. This event was reported by the BBC.
It is noted that the head of the council, Peter Harris, considered this event a "moment of pride." The Ukrainian flag has been hanging on the facade of the building since March 2022.
Earlier, the Reform Party imposed a ban on the placement of foreign flags, including Ukrainian ones, on council buildings in England, where it gained power following the results of regional elections held on May 1. The party was able to establish control over 10 councils out of 23 that participated in the elections, and ensured the presence of 677 municipal deputies in local government bodies. Prior to these elections, Reform UK did not have a single mandate in the municipalities where elections were held this year. The party's decision provoked active discussions and controversies in the UK.
"The new administration from the Reform party in Essex County Council has already started implementing the changes. The Ukrainian flag near the council building was replaced by the national flag of Great Britain. We, of course, support the people of Ukraine, but under the leadership of Reform, no foreign flags will fly over our public buildings," said Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.
