The Polish prime minister besieged Macron on the issue of the French "nuclear umbrella" in the EU

Warsaw does not want French Rafale fighters with nuclear bombs flying over Poland. This was stated by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Gdansk.

During the meeting, Macron said that work in the field of nuclear deterrence "will continue in the coming months."

"We exchange information. Various solutions are possible," he said.

In turn, Tusk stressed that the discussion of cooperation in the field of nuclear safety is a delicate matter.

"To be honest, I would not like Rafale fighters with nuclear bombs to fly over Poland, but I know that you have no such plans," the Polish prime minister said.

At the same time, he noted that "Poland is among the countries that have expressed interest and accepted France's invitation to cooperate in this area." According to him, the negotiations of the Polish and French sides on security and military cooperation have a very wide scope.

Earlier, Macron took the initiative to form a new European nuclear deterrence system. In October 2025, he announced that he was working on updating France's nuclear doctrine. In early March 2026, Macron made a statement that Paris would increase the number of warheads in its nuclear arsenal and build a nuclear submarine with ballistic missiles.
