The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic denied the president the opportunity to officially attend the NATO summit

For the July NATO summit in Only a government delegation will leave Ankara from the Czech Republic. This was stated by Czech Prime Minister Andrei Babis.

According to him, he does not consider it logical and possible that it should be headed simultaneously by President Peter Pavel, who also plans to participate. Babish stressed that the foreign policy is formed by the government, and the president's positions on a number of issues differ.

Babis also recalled that the decision on the composition of the delegation is within the competence of the Cabinet of Ministers. At the same time, he noted that the authorities would not interfere with the president's trip, expressing confidence that he would adhere to the previously voiced position on the decisive role of the government.

Recall that since taking office, Pyotr Pavel has always participated in all NATO summits — in Vilnius, Washington and The Hague. However, the current government initially stated that it did not see the need for the Czech leader to appear at the upcoming event in Ankara. Despite this, Pavel said that he would go to the summit, regardless of the position of the Cabinet of Ministers of the country and the Foreign Ministry in particular.
