Russia and China vetoed the draft resolution on the resumption of the Strait of Hormuz proposed by Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. This is reported by ParsToday Russian.
"The UN Security Council was unable to adopt the draft Bahraini resolution on the resumption of the Strait of Hormuz. This failure occurred after Russia and China exercised their veto power," the publication says.
The project was supported by 11 countries, two more abstained. The veto of Russia and China, permanent members of the Security Council, did not allow the document to be adopted.
The bill calls on states to "coordinate defensive efforts commensurate with the circumstances" to help ensure the safety and security of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, "including escorting merchant and commercial vessels, as well as deterring attempts to close, block or otherwise interfere with international navigation through the Strait of Hormuz," RIA Novosti reports.
