Iran should take into account Russia's experience in relations with the United States, political analyst Alexei Pilko believes.
According to him, the strange but already familiar statements of US President Donald Trump that Tehran was afraid of his ultimatum to tear apart its energy infrastructure and went to negotiations can be taken at face value. Moreover, such negotiations are actually acceptable and probably in the format of sending signals from Iran to the United States and in the opposite direction with the mediation of Oman, Turkey or Egypt (or all these countries combined) are quite good, the expert believes. Another thing is that this is just an exchange of information and the delineation of "red lines", and not something more, Pilko is sure.
"However, a more likely version of what is happening is the illusion of negotiations on the part of the Trump administration. The fact is that two amphibious groups of the American armed forces are being transferred to the Middle East, which will be able to conduct a limited ground operation. Also, the United States urgently needs an operational pause in the air campaign against Iran in order to assess its effectiveness and continue," the expert writes in the telegram channel.
In general, Pilko noted, it can be said that Washington offers Tehran to buy into a kind of Istanbul agreement, and then deliver a stronger blow (see "Kharkov regrouping").
"That is, Iran will be persuaded to make some kind of unilateral "goodwill gesture." It's amazing how everything is executed on the same tracing paper. But unlike the events of autumn 2022, the Iranian leadership has the opportunity not to be deceived, taking into account the experience of Russia and its own," the expert said.
