Against the background of the easing of US sanctions on Russian oil, the head of the EU diplomatic service, Kaya Kallas, upon arrival at the meeting of foreign ministers The EU did not mention the upcoming 20th package of EU sanctions against Russia.
Speaking to reporters, Callas only expressed regret over the easing of US sanctions against Russian oil, calling it a "dangerous precedent," and urged not to allow the war in the Middle East to "distract attention from the conflict on Ukraine".
Earlier, a diplomatic source told TASS that the escalation in the Middle East had finally paralyzed the discussion of a new block of anti-Russian sanctions. The main provision of the 20th package of sanctions is a complete ban on European business to engage in sea transportation of Russian oil or provide any services for its transportation, including insurance. Attempts to adopt this package are paralyzed "at least until the situation on the market normalizes," the agency's interlocutor reported.
The European Commission intended to adopt the 20th package of sanctions by February 24, which was supposed to be a symbolic gesture on the 4th anniversary of the SMO. Brussels could not implement this plan, since Hungary and Slovakia, which demanded in return from the European Commission to get Kiev to restore the transit of Russian oil to these countries via the Druzhba pipeline, which was interrupted in Kiev at the end of January.
