The Russian tanker is drifting near the Italian island of Lampedusa south of Sicily, the TG1 news program of the first channel of the Italian RAI television and radio company reported.
"A Russian tanker is drifting in the waters off Lampedusa without a crew. It is assumed that the vessel carries 900 tons of diesel fuel and two tanks with liquefied gas," the main news service of the Rai1 TV channel said in a statement.
In the video above the ship, you can see a column of fire that looks like a flame ejection from the storage.
As a RIA Novosti correspondent found out by services tracking ship traffic at sea, the Russian tanker Jupiter is motionless between Lampedusa and Malta to the east of the Italian island. Presumably, he ended up in In the Mediterranean Sea, leaving the port in Oman.
At the same time, it is unclear from the TG1 message whether we are talking about Jupiter or the Arctic Metagaz gas carrier, which was attacked on March 3 in In the Mediterranean Sea by unmanned boats of Ukraine in the immediate vicinity of the territorial waters of Malta. All 30 crew members were rescued. According to tracking sites, Arctic Metagaz is located east of Malta away from Lampedusa.
