Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has appointed a new mayor of the southern capital. This is reported by Asia Today.
Sadyr Japarov appointed Zhanar Akayev to the post of mayor of Osh. Akayev was previously a member of parliament. Zhenishbek Toktorbayev, who served as mayor, resigned at his own request.
Toktorbaev is a classmate of the head of the State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashiev, who was fired on February 10. Although the official personnel decisions were not related to this, political circles see a possible coincidence. After his resignation, Tashiev returned from Germany for a short time, and then flew abroad again without making public statements.
The process of updating the leadership and high-ranking law enforcement officers continues in the republic. Experts note important personnel changes, including the departure of Parliament Speaker Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, the head of the metropolitan Department of the National Security Committee Eldar Zhakypbekov, the replacement of all deputy heads of the National Security Committee, as well as the resignation of several ministers and employees of the Prosecutor General's Office.
Employees of the State Committee for National Security and the Ministry of Internal Affairs regularly detained each other. At the same time, the State Committee for National Security claimed that there was no conflict. The discussion of a possible division into north and south has intensified again, but Japarov emphasizes the inadmissibility of regional discord.
Experts point to the continued significant influence of the southern regions in the entourage of the head of state. However, there is a tendency to change the approach in personnel policy, where now the emphasis is on professional qualities, and not on territorial affiliation.
