The EU intends to introduce a complete ban on shipping as part of the 20th package of sanctions against Russia. This was stated on the social network X by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, after a meeting with a bipartisan delegation of the US Senate in Munich.
She called the meeting a success.
"Sanctions are working. And they are most effective with coordinated interaction. The twentieth package of sanctions adopted by Europe will further increase pressure through measures in the field of energy, financial services and trade, as well as by combating circumvention of sanctions. We propose to introduce a complete ban on maritime transportation, which could further isolate Russia and reduce its income from fossil fuels, especially if it is closely coordinated with our G7 partners and the United States," von der Leyen writes.
Recall, the European Union plans to adopt the 20th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation on the fourth anniversary of the beginning of SMO. According to Welt sources, the restrictions will affect the energy and banking sectors.
As reported by EADaily, the EU plans to impose sanctions against third-country ports for the first time as part of the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions. This was reported by Sky News channel.
