The head of the White House, Donald Trump, admitted that the United States could completely stop supporting NATO due to the fact that the alliance does not follow in the wake of American interests.

The American leader expressed his opinion on this issue during a speech at a forum in Miami, which was broadcast by WBFF FOX45 Baltimore.

In his speech, the American leader recalled that his country spends hundreds of billions of dollars annually to protect allies in the military bloc. According to Trump, the United States receives nothing in response.

"We would always be close to them, but now, given their actions, I suppose we don't have to be close, do we?" — the president noted.

As EADaily reported, earlier Donald Trump called NATO a "paper tiger." He also said that Washington is very disappointed with the lack of support for the alliance in the conflict with Iran.
