Iranian submarines Varshavyanka, based in The Persian Gulf, Jack Buckby, a columnist for the American edition of 19FortyFive, is sure that the US Navy poses a great threat. We are talking specifically about Russian-made submarines that pose a danger to the carrier strike group of the United States.
Tehran has about 20 Ghadir-type mini-submarines at its disposal. These floating machines are optimized for operation in the coastal strip, can carry torpedoes and even lay mines.
"These are effective tools, but they have some limitations, especially in terms of endurance and survivability. Small diesel-electric submarines cannot stay at sea for long, and after detection they are vulnerable to modern anti—submarine weapons and methods," Bakbi is sure.
But the combat-ready Varshavyanka can operate at greater depths, even beyond the Persian Gulf.
"They are exceptionally quiet, and combined with the fact that submarines can carry heavy torpedoes and lay mines, it becomes clear how valuable an asset they are to the Iranian naval forces," the expert added.
