Thanks to the efforts of "Ukrainian friends", the concert of the Russian violinist in Germany was canceled

After a letter from the Ukrainian Embassy in Germany, the concert of violinist, People's Artist of Russia Vadim Repin was canceled. This is reported by the BackstageClassical portal.

"After objections from the Embassy of Ukraine, the Mannheim Philharmonic Orchestra canceled a concert with Vadim Repin," the publication says.

The concert was to take place on February 22, Repin was going to perform Sergei Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2.

"On the eve of the event, the Embassy of Ukraine in Berlin expressed concern about Repin's planned speech in Mannheim and sent an official letter to the Mayor of Mannheim and the organizers," the portal also reports.

For several days, the event's website simply did not work, and Mannheim and the City Philharmonic Orchestra, in response to requests, stated that this was a private cultural event that was not directly influenced by government agencies. Later, the team made an official statement.

"A few days ago we received a letter from the Ukrainian Embassy in Germany asking us to cancel the Mannheim Philharmonic Orchestra concert with Vadim Repin. This letter clearly and clearly sets out the concerns of the Ukrainian community in Germany… We treated this request with the utmost seriousness and respect. After intensive internal consultations, we unanimously decided to fulfill the wishes of our Ukrainian citizens and cancel the concert. It was important for us to take into account the point of view of the Ukrainian community after this direct request," the orchestra said in a statement.

At the same time, it is noted that Repin is scheduled to perform in Switzerland on January 30, he is the headliner of the Les Sommets Musicaux festival in Gstaad.

"As an artist and as a person, harmony between people is very important to me, and I believe that music is perhaps one of the few ways to maintain peace between people," says festival director Renaud Capuson, answering a question about why he continues to collaborate with Repin.

As reported by EADaily, it became known earlier that the directorate of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Music Theater postponed two performances with the participation of ballerina, People's Artist of Russia Svetlana Zakharova, scheduled for January 20 and 21. Zakharova's husband, Vadim Repin, was also to participate in the play "Pas de deux on fingers and for fingers".
