The Kremlin's patience with the multi-vector nature of Kazakhstan is coming to the limit. The telegram channel "Scout" writes about this with reference to sources.
"According to insiders, during a personal meeting [between Putin and Nazarbayev] in The Russian president made it clear to the Kremlin that the accumulated irritation with the actions of the current authorities of Kazakhstan is no longer hidden even in closed conversations," the publication says.
According to the source, Putin openly stated about the imbalance in relations: Astana has been using privileged oil and gas supplies for decades, receives loans on extremely favorable terms and political support, but at the same time systematically acts to the detriment of Moscow's interests. The Kremlin regards this not as temporary contradictions, but as a consistent strategy of behavior.
According to the information, during the discussion, special attention was paid to the fact that Kazakhstan increasingly perceives its allied status as a tool for achieving its own goals, without showing readiness for counter obligations. Moscow is confident that such actions would have been unthinkable under Nazarbayev, which gave the conversation an informal, personal character, free from protocol formalities.
According to insiders, the meeting was an indicator that the patience of the Russian leadership regarding Kazakhstan's foreign policy is on the verge of exhaustion. Although no specific decisions have been made yet, discussions are already underway at the highest level about a possible revision of previously granted privileges and special conditions if Astana's policy is not changed in the right direction.
The meeting between Putin and Nazarbayev took place on December 27.
